Sincerest flattery

With HQ pulling sizeable audiences every day, imitators would never be far behind.

The first with the sincerest form of flattery is The Q. As imitations go, well, it's a really, really close imitation. Practically a clone, in fact. The Q features the same elimination skein of trivia questions. The assembled multitudes (much less multitudinous than for HQ) try their luck on the increasingly difficult quizzer, hosted by the charmingly amateurish Joseph Monahan.

YouTube offers a few sample eps, if you want to see what the show is all about. The Q is not terrible, though the linked ep peters out when everybody gets eliminated. (And I got the final, fatal question right! But I goofed a lot of the others.) The Q offers oddball graphics, like a clumsy clip from Family Guy. But maybe that's more amateurish charm, depending on your point of view.

Right now HQ doesn't have to worry much about the competition, because The Q's audience is tiny compared to the hundreds of thousands for the established show. We'll see what becomes of this goofy sub-genre of interactive online game shows.
