Heap of Feud

As I wrote in yesterday's entry, Buzzr and GSN are in an arms race to see who can splatter the most Family Feud on my TV screen.

Which got me thinking - dangerous habit, I know - just how much Feud is available per week, on cable and broadcast, in my hometown DFW area? The quick and dirty answer is, a lot. A more accurate answer takes a little digging at ScreenerTV. Buzzr runs the show 76 times a week, twelve each weekday and sixteen on the weekend. Not to be outdone, GSN runs Feud fourteen times each weekday and twenty times on the weekend, for 90 showings in all. And to top it off, the Fox duopoly station KDFI broadcasts Feud four times each weekday and another four times on the weekend, for a total of 24 runs.

If you're scoring at home, that's 190 episodes of Family Feud bombarding my humble household each week, or ninety-five hours of the stuff. Hey, there are only 168 hours in a week. There's a whole lotta feudin' goin' on.

The next most common game show is Match Game, mostly thanks to Buzzr. The oldies diginet runs Gene and friends twelve times each weekday and another eighteen times on the weekend, for a total of 78 showings. GSN tosses in four runs each weekday for a total of 20 per week, which makes 98 weekly runs between the two networks. That's 49 hours of the stuff, which is a lot but pales beside Feud.
