With game show news sparse on the New Year's weekend, I tried my random page gimmick on
U.S. Game Shows Wiki.
The article that came back was
a brief bio of Brad Sherwood. One thing I didn't know (or had forgotten) was that Brad hosted the 1996-97 revival of
Dating Game. Not even YouTube can provide much video of Brad's efforts on the show, but I did locate
one episode. The showrunners tried messing with the traditional format, which didn't work so well. And it has to be said that Sherwood was not the most impressive host.
This guy is too over the top. Not a game show host. Good comedian, but not a host. Lange is retired. Let's call Chuck Woolery! The sarcastic YouTube comment is a reminder that Chuck did take over for the 1997-99 seasons, and the more usual format came back with him.
The morals of the story are that tinkering with a successful format is always risky, and it's not easy to be a good game show host.
