Okay, you won it, now how do you spend it?

Writer Michael Kaplan at the New York Post started wondering how winning contestants on game shows spend the loot.

So he did a little research, starting with recent Jeopardy champ Austin Rogers. Turns out that Austin's story is pretty mundane. He's keeping his day job and will sock away most of the money. He does hope to parlay his Jeopardy fame into a show biz job sooner or later, but he hasn't taken any rash plunges. He did pay someone to clean his apartment.

The oddest story comes from Caitlyn Burke, who wowed the game show world with a one-letter solve on Wheel of Fortune. She hauled in more than fifty grand in cash and prizes, and she got the idea of giving it all away. Seriously. She was going to start a blog and ask people why they needed money. Then she would bestow the loot on the most deserving supplicant.

Her boyfriend at the time talked her out of it. Caitlyn, I think that the boyfriend gave you some good advice. Instead, she paid off a lot of student loans and indulged in a few creature comforts. She still regrets not going through with the blog giveaway idea, though. Um, okay.

By the way, Caitlyn once left a comment on this blog about something or another. Or maybe it was an e-mail. After all these years of game show blogging, the memories get hazy.
