PATS HOST BLADES TONIGHT

The Regina Pats (3-3-1-0) are home Wednesday hosting a second straight game against the Saskatoon Blades (1-4-0-0). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats were 7-3 winners over the Blades on Saturday night and Wednesday will mark the second of eight meetings between Regina and Saskatoon in 2017-18. Tonight’s game can be heard starting at 6:35 with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up: Bradley and Oksanen lead Pats to big Win Saturday
Matt Bradley and Emil Oksanen each scored twice and had two assists to lead the Pats to a 7-3 win over the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night. Regina led 4-0 after the opening period, scoring three times with the man advantage. Oksanen picked up all four of his points in the opening frame, while Jake Leschyshyn picked up his first goal of the year. In the second, the Blades scored twice to the Pats one and it was 5-2 heading to the third. Saskatoon got it to within two with a shorthanded goal from Cameron Hebig, but Matt Bradley would answer for the Pats and then Jeff de Wit added another late goal on the powerplay to make it 7-3 and that was the final score.

Pats Acquire Sidaway and a pick from Kootenay
The Regina Pats Hockey Club has acquired 18-year-old forward Tanner Sidaway, as well as a seventh round pick in 2018 from the Kootenay ICE in exchange for 19-year-old forward Jeff de Wit. Sidaway (6’0, 181) is playing in his second full season in the WHL, last year with the ICE he scored two goals and had eight points in 65 games. The Victoria, B.C. product has a goal and an assist in five games to start the 2017-18 season. Sidaway was originally a listed player by the Red Deer Rebels, but was sent to Kootenay in a trade in January of 2016.

Davidson’s Fast Start
Pats defenceman Dawson Davidson is off to a strong start offensively this season. The Moosomin, Saskatchewan product has scored two goals and has eight assists in seven games to start the year. The 19-year-old is currently tied for sixth in defenceman scoring in the WHL and is tied for fourth with three powerplay assists. Davidson scored five goals and had 25 points last season between the Pats and Kamloops Blazers.

Powerplay Success
The Pats powerplay is operating at a high level to start the season. The club has scored at least one goal with the man advantage in every game so far this year. Overall, the Pats have scored 12 goals on 40 powerplay opportunities for a 30.0% success rate, which is sixth best in the WHL. Only the Victoria Royals have scored more powerplay goals in the league with 13. Emil Oksanen leads Regina with four goals with the man advantage, Matt Bradley has scored twice and six other players have singles, (Sam Steel, Jake Leschyshyn, Josh Mahura, Wyatt Sloboshan, Jeff de Wit & George King).

Zamula Gets NHL Recognition
Pats defenceman Egor Zamula was among those ranked in the NHL’s Central Scouting Service Players to Watch list for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Zamula came in as a ‘C’ Skater as a potential 4th to 6th round selection. The 17-year-old from Chelyabinsk, Russia recorded his first WHL point with an assist on Saturday against Saskatoon.
