Maybe all the Net pundits got tired of writing about those beloved and ancient shows of their youth. (They were shows of my forties, but I'm older than Olmec.) The stories abruptly dried up, as if Double Dare had suddenly run out of green slime. But nothing stays lost forever, especially in our little genre. So this nostalgia fest turned up in Google News today.
It's a recap of Nick's supposedly ten best shows of the nineties. The author is MSTANKOVIC, which sounds like a mineral. Three game shows make the list, and they're the predictable picks: Guts, Double Dare and Legends of the Hidden Temple.
I shouldn't mock the selections too much, because Legends showed up on my own list of the top 50 game shows. I figured I had to put one kid show on the honor roll, and Legends was a little more respectable as an actual contest. At least the kids always had a tough time with the silver monkey.
The Legends TV movie has come and gone, and so has the live Double Dare show at Comic-Con. But Nick hasn't revived any of the shows yet. Maybe they're waiting for more nostalgia pieces on the web.
