EDMONTON - The Saskatchewan Roughriders collected their first West Division road win in the Chris Jones era, and they did it with a dominant 54-31 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos Friday night.
Veteran receiver Naaman Roosevelt got the party started, hauling in a 7-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Glenn at 7:02 of the opening quarter. Five minutes later Willie Jefferson scored on a blocked punt, and the Riders held a 14-0 lead going into the second quarter.
Cameron Marshall scored an acrobatic 21-yard touchdown and Tyler Crapigna added a 21-yard field goal in the second period, and Duron Carter returned a blocked PAT 114 yards for a two-pointer as Saskatchewan led 26-9 at the break.
The Riders recorded a pair of pick sixes in the third quarter - off of Eskimo quarterback Mike Reilly - from Jovon Johnson and Kacey Rodgers for a 40-7 lead after 45 minutes.
Vernon Adams scored a rushing touchdown and Brandon Bridge tossed a 15-yard TD to Duron Carter to cap the Riders scoring as they romped to the 54-31 victory.
Cauchy Muamba, Ladarius Perkins and Bryant Mitchell scored touchdowns for the Eskimos (7-2).
With the victory, the Riders improved to 4-4 heading into their next game - the Labour Day Classic next Sunday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
