I've blogged about this before, but how can you get tired of a town that changed its name to a game show?
Okay, maybe you can get tired of it, but I think it's good for one more entry. The town, of course, is Truth or Consequences, NM. Previously known as Hot Springs - a depressingly generic name, no doubt - the town changed its name to match the radio game show in 1950. (This was before the network TV version.)
You can read all about it on Wikipedia.
A columnist from South Bend, IN
visited the town on a recent trip through the Great Southwest. He ran into an elderly gentleman who grumped: "Silly name, as far as I'm concerned. Most people just say T or C anyway." He was one of the people who wanted to keep the blah "Hot Springs" moniker. No sense of humor.
Though now that I think about it, maybe the old codger had a point. Would you want to live in Deal or No Deal, MD?
