Cameroon - Anglophone Crisis: Teachers In Private and Confessional Schools Temporary Unemployed
Thousands of teachers in both private and confessional schools in the North West and South West region of Cameroon have now gone for months without salaries because of the current situation in the two English speaking regions.
Since the strike action which has lasted for months now, teachers who are not under the pay roll of the government have been going through tough times. The non resumption of classes has made it difficult for schools to collect second installments of fees hence a dicey one for school administrators.
Teachers are now temporary jobless and some have changed profession for the time being. According to findings of a Douala based radio Equinoxe Radio, Presbyterian Education Authority Secretary hinted that the over 1600 staff and support staff they have at the PCC in the Education sector, all are now on standby and that their salaries of January were only paid last March.
Plans by the PCC to resume school in March were allegedly met with threats from anonymous persons on possible attack on schools owned by the Church.
