Le démocrate a noté que «les rapports indiquent que de nombreux manifestants ont été détenus et aujourd'hui marque le deuxième mois sans l'Internet qui cause un revers majeur pour l'avenir social et économique d'une région précédemment dynamique».Le député américain a appelé le gouvernement américain à prendre conscience de la situation qui prévaut dans les deux régions anglophones du Cameroun. «Comme pour tous nos amis, nous avons l'obligation de tenir le gouvernement camerounais responsable lorsque ses actions suppriment la liberté d'expression et ne protègent pas les populations minoritaires. J'appelle le président Biya et le gouvernement du Cameroun à atténuer les tensions avant que la situation ne se dégrade davantage ", a déclaré le politicien.
Il a ajouté que la situation en ce qui concerne cette perturbation de l'Internet est particulièrement préoccupante étant donné l'aide extérieure fournie au peuple camerounais et dont la mission est d'encourager le développement socio-économique, la stabilité et la démocratie dans la région. Selon l'ONG Internet sans frontières, la situation Internet du Cameroun du Sud est la plus longue fermeture sur le continent.
La coupure de l'Internet a fait perdre aux Camerounais du Sud plus de 700 millions de francs CFA (1,35 million de dollars). Il faut noter que l'Internet a été coupé pendant plus de 60 jours dans les régions du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest. Face à cette situation sociopolitique qui continue et préoccupe de plus en plus l'opinion internationale, le Congrès américain examine actuellement les grandes lignes du problème, étant donné la pléthore de rapports qui bouleversent l'attitude du régime Biya. US Congressman calls on Trump Administration to act now
A US elected Representative, Andre D. Carson, from the state of Indiana has said that he is worried about the oppression of Anglophones in Cameroon. The Democrat noted “Reports indicate that many demonstrators have been detained and today marks the second month without the Internet which is causing a major setback for the social and economic future of a previously dynamic region.”
The American Congressman has called on the US government for awareness of the situation prevailing in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon. “As with all our friends, we have an obligation to hold the Cameroonian government accountable when its actions suppress freedom of expression and do not protect minority populations. I call on President Biya and the government of Cameroon to ease tensions before the situation deteriorates further, “says the politician.
He added that the situation with regard to this Internet disruption is of particular concern given the foreign aid provided to the Cameroonian people and whose mission is to encourage socio-economic development, stability and democracy in the region. According to the NGO Internet without frontiers, the Southern Cameroons internet situation is the longest shut down on the continent.
The Internet cut has caused Southern Cameroonians to lose potentially more than CFAF 700 million (1.35 million US dollars) It should be noted that the Internet has been cut for more than 60 days in the North West and South West regions.
